🎸Meditation for creativity🎨 In these times of social distancing and self isolation, many of us are rediscovering or taking up creative pursuits to keep ourselves occupied. Whether it’s getting in a bit of guitar practice, inventive cooking from a lockdown kitchen or cracking out the oil paints, creativity is both a vital part of self-care and also the way we will find solutions moving forward. This is why it’s a great idea to meditate – this practice has been found to support our creativity in a variety of ways! Brain scans demonstrate that meditators exhibit greater thickness in their prefrontal cortex, a part of the brain that Arne Dietrich (Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience and author of How Creativity Happens in the Brain) argues is central to creativity. The practice of meditation can develop areas of the brain which are vital to our imagination, while also putting us in what is known as an alpha brain state. When we meditate, our brains produce alpha brain waves – something which can also happen when we are truly happy and relaxed, or out in nature.
